15 Φεβρουαρίου 2020, Παγκόσμια ημέρα κατά του παιδικού καρκίνου - Physical activity in children during cancer treatments

Although physical activity is deemed safe during cancer treatment, many children with cancer require additional assistance with staying active.

Physical activity (PA) is an important part of healthy lifestyle, and it has a significant role in securing the motor development of a child. In healthy children, PA is a normal part of everyday life but during illness, it may become neglected.

PA in children with cancer is reduced due to the disease itself, its treatment and isolation practices during the treatment that can take from few months to more than two years. Common concerns among childhood cancer survivors (CCS) are overweight/obesity, osteoporosis, reduced cardiopulmonary and musculoskeletal capacity, impaired cardiovascular health and health-related quality of life.
